COTTAGE CHEESE FLAGELS – Simple & Delicious

Walking into a charming Italian café, the aroma of crispy, cheesy goodness wafts through the air and instantly transports me to a place of comfort and warmth. There’s something magical about the combination of melted mozzarella and the tang of tomato sauce, and today, I’m sharing a recipe that brings a similar Italian flavor profile to a simple yet mouth-watering dish – our COTTAGE CHEESE FLAGELS. Inspired by the classic ham and cheese sticks I recently shared on the blog (try them here for a delicious twist), this variation uses creamy cottage cheese to elevate the flavor of these addictive little treats to new heights. So, what are you waiting for? Come taste the Italian love for yourself!

Ingredients

Cottage Cheese (1 cup)
Large Egg (1)
Grated Parmesan (1/2 cup)
Chopped Fresh Parsley (1 tablespoon)
Salt (to taste)
Black Pepper (to taste)
All-Purpose Flour (1 cup)
Grated Mozzarella (1 cup)
Olive Oil (for frying)

Directions

1
In a medium bowl, combine cottage cheese, egg, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the dough.
2
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
3
Cut out squares of dough, about 2 inches per side.
4
Dip each square into a shallow dish of flour, then into a shallow dish of olive oil, to coat evenly.
5
Place the coated flagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 1 inch of space between each flagel. Drizzle with a little more olive oil, then sprinkle mozzarella on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
